Brentwood teams gain hardware at state meet

The city of Brentwood showed up to compete at the TSAAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Three high schools won four of the eight races.

The Brentwood boys stormed to victory in the Class AAA race, scoring 29 points over Wilson Central (132 points). They were led by the 1-2 finish of Brodey Hasty and Taylor Vroon, running 15:09.07 and 15:10.71 respectively. The Southeast #2 team will not turn its attention to the Southeast Regional race on Nov. 26.

In the girls Class AAA race Ravenwood of Brentwood came away as winners with 77 points. They placed six runners in the top 32, including a second place finish from junior Annika Sleenhof (17:50.40 for 5k).

Freshman Sasha Neglia won the race in 17:32.17, the fastest time of the day. She led Dobyns-Bennett to a second place team finish.

Brentwood Academy swept boys and girls team and individual titles in the Division II Class AA races. The boys scored 22 points and the girls scored 19 points. Sophomore Carter Cheeseman led the boys with a 15:54.04 win and junior Meredith Helton won in 18:53.98.

Rebecca Story, a junior from Catholic Academy of Knoxville, won the first race of the day, the Class A-AA girls race in 17:49.70, winning by over a minute. Central Magnet won the team race with 61 points.

In the boys race, Knoxville Catholic beat Page by one point, 80-81. They were led by the 1-2 finish of senior Georde Goodwyn and sophomore Jake Renfree, running 16:12.94 and 16:13.02 respectively.

The Webb School of Knoxville swept Division II Class A team titles. The girls scored 24 points and the boys scored 28 points.

Individually, Webb School of Knoxville junior Carter Coughlin won the boys race by nearly a minute in 15:57.16 while senior Niamh Schumacher, of King's Academy, won the girls race by over a minute in 17:38.65.
